Evangelistic Outreach

Mount Moriah Baptist Church (MMBC) of Spartanburg believes very strongly in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19 – 20). The church is the Body of Christ; therefore, she is mandated by Jesus Christ to “make disciples.” Every believer has to decide what he/she will do about the Great Commission, because we as believers have our individual responsibility to God. God is interested in increasing His family, because He does not want anyone lost. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). Jesus calls us not only to come to Him but to go for Him, says Rick Warren in his book Purpose Driven Life.

Minister Booker McDowell serves as the Minister of Evangelism at MMBC of Spartanburg with a spiritual passion. He receives training for his work at the Billy Graham School of Evangelism in Asheville, NC. and from his pastor, Dr. Benjamin D. Snoddy. He has attended the South Carolina Baptist Congress of Christian Education for training as well.

Minister McDowell’s responsibility as Minister of Evangelism is to give leadership to the congregation regarding the practice of evangelism. Training is essential to the practice of evangelism. The Evangelism Ministry of MMBC of Spartanburg is designed to encourage and train members of the congregation, individually and corporately, how to lead others to accept and commit to Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Workshops are held to provide the skill training which is intended to increase the confidence of believers. Training is available for members of church organizations too. At least once a year, he encourages and coordinates a trip for a number of members of the church to attend a conference at the Billy Graham School of Evangelism in Asheville, NC. The Church School has initiated an evangelistic effort to recruit new members and non-members to study the word of God. Each class has an Evangelistic Class Leader who provides the leadership within the class for the initiation of evangelistic approaches.
